An Interview with Shiv Shenoy | Founder –

Online Entrepreneur | Author | Digital Marketer | PMP Coatch

Tell something about yourself.

I was born in the beautiful temple town of Udupi, on the western Konkan coast, which is also known for some awesome recipes.

Tell about your Parents

My father is an entrepreneur who ran multiple businesses in parallel, which is what I grew up seeing - so I guess I learned multi-tasking from him. My mother is a homemaker - backbone of our family. I learned the value of honesty and perseverance from her. My wife has been the solid support I needed for whatever I do, and our two lovely children are my inspiration

What kind of hardships did your family experience while you were growing?

My father made enough for us to go by but we were not privy to luxuries of life. I got some of my early life lessons and business lessons helping my father in his businesses

What's the turning point of your life when you have to take major decisions in your life?

After my Engineering, I decided to give a shot at being an entrepreneur but decided against it and joined a job as a Software engineer because I enjoyed coding. However, after 15 long years in the industry working for and with Startups, I gradually realized that I was not able to create the kind of value I wanted for myself or others. Owing to a moment of clarity while I was on a hospital bed due to occupational hazard, I decided to be 'useful' to others by being an entrepreneur

What is the Idea behind your company? and its success?

A year later, I quit the plush job and started - a blog about Project Management certification exam - devising strategies and artifacts that helped someone looking to pass this exam to actually do it in a simple and easy manner, in a matter of weeks. Later I started helping small businesses leverage the power of Internet to grow their revenue. Currently, I am growing - where I teach busy employees to start their own online business on the sides and earn handsome passive income. This has become most critical in today's economic scenario the world over

What were some of the challenges you have had to deal with?

Lack of knowledge was the main challenge - which I relished. The first year of business was spent in learning for the large part and experimenting with blogging and all that was required in Digital Marketing. It all started to come together well in the second year. Subsequently, I ended up creating 3 businesses in 3 years

What do you see as your strengths?

Ability to constantly learn and experiment is an essential part of growing business

What are some of your life philosophies or life views that you would like to share with others?

"If you are in a position to help, it becomes your obligation to do so"

What are some of your talents? How did you discover them?

Here are two main lessons I have learned. Choosing right people to work with is a factor that majorly decides your rate of success. Also, when an opportunity knocks even if you think you are not ready, jump right in. Figure out what is required to be done and find a way to do it

What 3 pieces of advice would you give to college students who want to become entrepreneurs?

Start early, start small, find someone who has done it and then replicate the steps. This is the shortcut to success. Each outcome is a learning, there is no failure

What have been some of your failures, and what have you learned from them?

For me entrepreneurship is a journey - there are only lessons to be learned, no failures

How many hours do you work a day on average?

About 8 hours of productive work a day

What motivates you?

The ability and opportunity to change lives of people for the better

How do you define success?

If you are able to define a goal and achieve it, then you've got success. The goals keep changing, so are the skills needed to reach them. And that helps one growth constantly

What is the best way to achieve long-term success?

By constantly asking myself whether what I am doing today will help people in the long run

What book has inspired you the most?

Many. The recent one is "The One Thing" by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

When people write telling you that your product/content helped them reach their goal

What are your hobbies?

Playing Flute and painting are two things I enjoy

What would you like to share for MoneyOnWheels Readers?
